Performance Task: Measuring the Perimeter and Area of Shapes

Scenario:Your school is designing a new garden, and you have been selected to help. The garden needs a fence around it, and you also need to know how much space is available for planting flowers. Use your knowledge of perimeter and area to complete the following tasks.

Task 1: Calculate the Perimeter of the Garden

The school garden will be a rectangular shape with a length of 12 meters and a width of 8 meters.Step 1: Find the perimeter of the rectangular garden plot.- Formula for perimeter of a rectangle: P = 2 × (Length + Width)Show your work and find the perimeter.

Task 2: Calculate the Area of the Garden

Now, you need to know how much space is inside the garden to plant flowers.Step 1: Find the area of the rectangular garden plot.- Formula for area of a rectangle: A = Length × WidthShow your work and find the area.

Task 3: Calculate the Perimeter and Area of a Square Flower Bed

Inside the garden, there will be a smaller square flower bed with each side measuring 4 meters.Step 1: Find the perimeter of the square flower bed.- Formula for perimeter of a square: P = 4 × SideShow your work and find the perimeter.Step 2: Find the area of the square flower bed.- Formula for area of a square: A = Side × SideShow your work and find the area.

Task 4: Design Your Own Garden Plot

Imagine you want to create your own garden design. Use any of the following shapes: a triangle, a rectangle, or a square. Choose the dimensions for your garden and calculate both the perimeter and area.- Draw your design.- Write the dimensions you chose.- Calculate the perimeter and area for your garden.
